This is the first post from our current trip to India. We left home in Cairns to travel to Darjeeling in the Himalayas, where we spent a couple of days.

We then completed a six-day trek along Singalila Ridge on the India-Nepal border. The ridge gave us views across Nepal to the highest peaks in the world.

The weather wasn't as kind to us as it might have been, but we had a marvellous adventure all the same. Click on the photo to the right to come travelling with us.

  • Hi Chris and Jan. Great photos and narrative as always. Did you get the sense that the extra number of people coming to this part of the world was a good or a bad thing? I’m guessing good in terms of tourist dollars. Maybe bad if the busy-ness is a diversion from cultural ways of life? What was your sense of this?

    • As far as life in Darjeeling itself is concerned, the tourist rupees are a big boost to the economy, and to people’s lives. You don’t have to travel far outside the city to be in more traditional Himalayan villages. Maybe a reasonable balance at this stage, but the general city infrastructure in Darjeeling may not hold up to much more growth.
