This would be our third visit to the west-coast state of Goa. Karma has four resorts along the coast of the smallest Indian state. Previously we had stayed a week at the southernmost property, Haathi Matal, and then another at Monterio in the north of the state.

On this trip, we had booked a week back at Monterio at Baga Beach, planning a relaxing week at the resort and the beach shacks along the coast. Our journey was then to take us to the north to see some parts of the country we hadn't been to before.

But world events intervened in the form of a short war between India and its neighbour Pakistan. We had to change plans, and finished up spending a bit more time in Goa.

  • Hi Chris and Jan. In some parts of Asia eating the food from street markets can be a problem for those of us with disgestive systems used to western cuisine. It looks like you had no such problems in Goa? Did you find you could eat what you wanted where you wanted without incident?

    • The beach shacks in Goa are really a step up from the street stalls that are found all around India. They are more like open-air café bars, and have proper kitchens.

During our three trips to India, we haven’t had many problems with the food. Admittedly, we haven’t eaten much from street vendors, but plenty of times from cheap shopfront restaurants. On two visits we’ve both come down with head colds, but incidents of grumbly-guts have been few and short-lived. We’ve put them down to just an unrelenting overload of spicy curries rather than hygeine.
