The Lake District National Park is one of England's iconic walking destinations, and one of our must-see places. Located in the northwest of England, near the Scottish border, its high hills rise above countless lakes. An absolute mecca for walkers.

We stayed in a little seaside village on the western edge of the park, in probably the best apartment of the whole trip. The weather wasn't kind to us, we managed to get wet on all three outings. But that didn't detract from the splendour of the scenery.

Coem with us to see what we saw when we were there.

  • From the photos and the stories I didn’t see any reference to other walkers in the area. The weather didn’t seem great but given the time of year I’d have thought there would have been tourists descending on the region. Did you get the sense that there were crowds about?

    • There were quite a few others on the trails, I’m just getting better at taking photos without them in the frame! I think anyone coming here to walk expects it to rain a lot, so they wear good gear and walk anyway. If parking was anything to go by, there must’ve been plenty of people about. Finding somewhere to leave the car is a bit of a nightmare at any time, and everywhere requires payment. The Councils must rake in huge sums.

That’s not limited to the Lake District either. Most car parks either take cards or have a pay by app method. But we have been caught a couple of times without enough coins to feed the machine. A tip is to have a good supply in the car at all times.
