Our road trip southwards from Far North Queensland to Melbourne has now reached Mildura in Victoria's Sunraysia district. This will be our final stop before reaching Melbourne and catching up with friends and family.
Mildura is a lovely town on the banks of the mighty Murray River. The city and its surrounds have a rich history, first from its days as a major paddle steamer port, through to its development as the centre of Australia's citrus fruit growing industry.

Hi Chris and Jan. It looked like there was plenty of water in the Murray. Was that just good luck, or is this part of the system insulated from the water depletion we have in different parts of our water ways?
Good question Mark. There was plenty of flow in both rivers. I think the Murray is usually full, and it will be getting a bit of water from the snow melt in the high country at this time of year.
I think the water problems are the bigger issue along the Darling upstream from here. But we crossed it a couple of times on the way down and there seemed to be water in it. It’s also much greener through NSW and Qld than normal, I think they’ve had a lot of rain this year. El Nino is coming so big droughts over the next 12 months mooch change things.
