As we travel south through Greece, and Spring approaches, we are seeing some warmer weather. This means our walking, mostly dormant for the last few months, can start again in earnest. Staying in Volos, we have great access to some of the best walking in Greece on the Pelion Peninsula.

Volos is a lovely port city halfway between Thessaloniki and Athens, and we loved every minute of our week there. We hope you do too as you read the story of our visit there.

  • It seems so strange that having spent so much time in more northern parts of Europe earlier in the season, the most snow you’d see would be in the southern areas of the continent leading into spring. Was the extra snow a highlight of your stay in this area, or was it more of a pain because of the impact on walking opportunities?

For Australians, standing on the promenade in Volos and looking out to sea and then turning to see snow capped mountains just five kilometres away is a sight we just didn’t anticipate. It’s quite magical, and we were lucky to be there when we were rather than later in the year when they are just big hills.
